Today's Meet:
With this web 2.0 tool, it is very easy to create a chat room for students to use. After creating the room, either post the link on your website for students, project it in front of your class, or just tell them about the link. You and your students can easily use the chat room to discuss any number of topics. Students are not able to delete their messages.
Some people use Today's Meet as a synchronous discussion tool for collaborative work. Others use it to give students a voice who may not normally speak up in class. Another good use is to collect knowledge checks for topics discussed in class. You can require students to use their real names for some purposes, but you may want to assign code names if you don't want students to know who is posting. Of course you would know who is posting what because you issue the code names.
It may be a good idea to count Today's Meet discussions for some level of participation credit. Doing so may motivate students to use their real names in favor of Howdy Doody or some other alias. Click the link below to find visual instructions for using Today's Meet.
