Trey Colvard is a Technology Facilitator at David W. Butler High School. He earned a license in Elementary Education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 1999 and a Master of Education in Educational Technology at Arizona State University in 2009. Trey has 15 years of total experience in education at the primary, secondary, and post-secondary levels.
Trey started his educational career in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in 1999 as a middle school Social Studies teacher at Eastway Middle School. He then took a chance by moving to Arizona to experience the West where he worked for nine years at Cocopah Middle School in the Scottsdale Unified School District teaching Social Studies, Language Arts, and Technology Applications. His favorite subject and grade was 6th grade Social Studies because it allowed him the luxury of discussing ancient civilizations with students every day, one of his favorite topics. During his tenure at Cocopah, Trey earned his Master of Education in Educational Technology at Arizona State University. Although he loved teaching at Cocopah Middle School, Trey decided to apply his M.Ed. by accepting an instructional design position at Grand Canyon University where he designed programs of instruction for the College of Education.
Trey went through the most significant change of his life in September of 2011 when his daughter was born. In the summer of 2012, he carefully considered how moving back to North Carolina could impact his family in various positive ways. He then decided to give up a great job and the Arizona lifestyle that he had grown to love to move his daughter closer to family. He now resides in Concord, North Carolina with his wife and daughter.
